So thankful for Hospital for Special Surgery and Dr. Kennedy for putting an end to our two year search for the problem with my son's ankle! Everyone we came in contact with was so nice and helpful!

I want to thank you for everything and taking the time to work with me from day one. After so many doctors telling me nothing was wrong, I was getting very discouraged so to have a doctor who believed me and was determined to find the cause made me feel so much better. And then after the surgery, when I was still in alot of pain you continued to keep in touch and work with me. Then recommending this surgery which has been the best thing I could of done. You have helped me to live my life the way I want to without limitations. I definately will recommend you to anyone I know that is having foot and ankle problems.

Drs. Kennedy and Egan,

My son Jack and I want to thank you for the care you've shown to him since meeting with you in September. Because of you, Jack was able to make it to the College Showcase in Florida that we were so worried about him being able to attend. His coach put him in for 10 minutes of each game; not necessarily enough to warrant an invite from any colleges, yet, but enough to roster him. Jack is still going to physical therapy as often as he can and has high hopes of regaining his strength and stamina to join his Club team for the spring season.

Your office has been so very accommodating and has been one of the best experiences with the Medical Profession that we've yet to encounter. We thank you for the personal attention and kindness each of you showed to us. Thank you for your expertise and confidence you instilled in us since our first meeting.

We would especially like to extend our warm wishes to your excellent staff. They played such an important role in my recovery and I sincerely appreciated their professional care and kindness. It was always nice to see their smiling faces during this trying time for me, and we always had such a good laugh or two.

I've been doing well with running recently! I placed 49th (14th for US men) in the NYC marathon in a time of 231:19. I also won the Queens half marathon in a time of 109:18. My repaired tendons have been holding up well and bringing me to new heights of racing success! Thanks for doing such a good job!

Two years ago after hurting my ankle badly during a sporting even down in Florida, I returned home to NY in hopes of a speedy recovery. Little did I know, that after visiting with Dr. Kennedy that I was looking at a rehab stint of 4-5 months. Having never sustained a seriously injury in all my years of athletics, Dr. Kennedy fully understood how upset I was, walked me though every step of the process, and continued to check on my progress every step of the way. This winter, I headed back to Colorado along with my friend who I recommended to Dr. Kennedy and who had the same procedure a year after I did. The trip couldn't have been better!

This month marks the 2 year anniversary of my ankle distraction surgery at HSS and I consider myself so lucky to have been referred to Dr. John G. Kennedy. Dr. Kennedy is a wonderful and caring surgeon. From the first consultation, Dr. Kennedy treated me with the utmost respect and compassion and his warmth and sense of humor quickly put me at ease.

I had lived in pain from my ankle for years and done everything possible to avoid having surgery, despite the fact that my balance was getting worse and I was scared of falling all the time. I especially didn’t want to have a fusion, which had been recommended to me in the past. Dr. Kennedy explained that I had a few options, including a fusion and ankle replacement but ultimately we made the decision that an ankle distraction with stem cell injection was the best choice for me. He explained in detail the surgery and recovery process, speaking in terms that I could understand and answering my countless questions. He joked that it wasn’t a procedure for wimps and he was right!

It was a long and painful process but through it all, Dr. Kennedy provided the encouragement and support that I needed. At each visit he gave me realistic expectations and goals and motivated me so that I was determined to not only reach those goals, but to surpass them if at all possible.

When I needed an additional scope to remove some bone fragments seven months after the initial procedure, I again entrusted my care to Dr. Kennedy and he again provided me with excellent care. He and his team, including his physician’s assistant and office staff have helped me with insurance issues and been very accommodating with scheduling appointments. Dr. Kennedy has always been accessible and I am grateful that I am able to email him with questions or concerns and always get a prompt response.

Now, two years after the initial procedure, my ankle has improved tremendously. I have very good range of motion, am able to walk without pain, have good balance and most importantly, I have my confidence back and am able to be active without  fear of falling. It’s been a long journey and Dr. Kennedy has been terrific throughout the entire process. I am so thankful that I came to HSS for my surgery and had the good fortune to be under his care.

I can not say enough about Dr. Kennedy! Having been to several surgeons over the past 10 years, he is by far the best!! Not only did he literally save my foot, he always took the time to explain every detail to me in an open and honest manner. Given that I traveled a great distance to see him, he always made himself available to me, regardless of how small the question or issue. I would highly recommend Dr. Kennedy, not only for his excellent skills as a surgeon, but also for his incredible bedside manner in dealing with patients. I always felt respected and in good hands when I was with him.

One year ago today you gave me my freedom back, and for the rest of my life I will never forget this date. You are truly a brilliant surgeon and an even kinder person. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I simply can enjoy my independence and mobility because of your talents.

A long time ago when I was healing from surgery and I was feeling low, I told myself that I should think about the day when I would be all better and I would thank you. At the time thinking of a bright future made me feel better.

So, I just want to thank you even thought it’s been a long time from diagnosing and fixing my foot. You did it, the pain I had from that osteochondral lesion is gone. I never forget that you healed me, and am always grateful. I just want to say thanks. Happy Thanksgiving.

"As a competitive runner, it was very demoralizing for me to hear from other Doctors how I would not be able to continue running due to damage to the cartilage in my ankle. So it was encouraging when Dr. Kennedy said that he could do a procedure to replace the damaged cartilage and allow me to go back to running. It's been two years now, and I've been back running competitevely for a while now and completely pain free."
F. Jones, Marathon Runner.

"Having heard of the benefits of microfracture surgery for some professional athletes, I knew that this was the right choice for me. But my knee is my life, therefore I could only trust it to the best doctors. That's why i came to the Hospital for Special Surgery and put my faith on Dr. John G. Kennedy. I couldn't have asked for a better treatment. His knowledge and skills are top-notch and the service at the hospital is first-class."
E. Carter, Downhill Skier.

"I had been suffering from ankle sprains since high school and had developed pain in my ankle which was now there all the time. As a mother of two, it was my desire to be able to run around and play with my children in the park, but I wasn't able to do so due to the pain. I went to visit Dr. Kennedy, who told me that I had a defect in my cartilage that could be treated with surgery. i decided to follow his advice and now I'm able to do all the things I want with my kids."
C. Goldberg

"I tried to go by with pain in my ankle for a few months, but as a salesman in New York city, walking blocks and blocks a day is the norm and it was interfering with my work to the point where I had thought about quitting. I had tried physical therapy for months, but the pain was very severe. I had an MRI done at HSS and Dr. Kennedy pointed out that I had a cyst in my bone which was the cause of the pain. He did surgery to drill the cyst and replace it with cement and, after more specific physical therapy program, I returned to work and can know also run on a treadmill at the gym."
P. Clayton

"Dr. Kennedy took care of my injured foot and made me comfortable again - quickly! I got better fast and was back to my game.

Michael Johnson - NY Giants

"In the spring of 2006 an MRI revealed a bond cyst in my left foot. As a competitive triathlete and runner I had obvious concerns about the extent of the injury, the length of recovery, and my ability to compete going forward. Needless to say, I shouldn't have worried. Dr. Kennedy and his team did an excellent job, from the surgery to post-op evaluations, my every need and concern was addressed. By summer I was out competing with absolutely no pain and even better, the confidence I gained form such treatment allowed me train harder that year and resulted in several top 10 finishes including New York City and Chicago triathlons. Thanks!!!"

Charles Macintosh - Triathlete

Whether it’s a fracture, strain, or sprain, Dr. Kennedy’s has kept several of the New York Giants on the playing field. He is ‘the name’ in orthopedic foot and ankle care and surgery for good reason. The care is great!

Ronnie Barnes – Head Athletic Trainer, New York Giants

I love my game! With Dr. Kennedy’s help I was able to return even stronger after an injury. He knows the lower extremity like I know the playing field. That’s why I would go to him again!

Antonio Pierce – Linebacker, New York Giants

I am a triathlete. I love to train and compete- the sport is not just a hobby, it's my lifestyle. With the demanding mileage of my sport (sprints to Ironman), I am prone to overuse injuries. That's where Dr. Kennedy comes in to diagnose and find the best ways to treat my injuries. His expertise enables me to continue doing what I love to do. What is unique about Dr. Kennedy and his whole staff is that they truly care about their patients' well-being. I've never felt just like another patient on the calendar, they've gone above and beyond to address my questions, even outside of office hours. Under their care, I can continue training to become the best athlete I can possibly be and hopefully qualify for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Lidia Rekas, Tri-athlete

Initially I went to Dr. Kennedy for a second opinion, but he was so up to date on new and improved ways of correcting my problem that I decided to stick with him. He's a great surgeon and now he's my #1 doctor.

Victoria Hodges - St. John's University, Women's Basketball

"My experience with Dr. Kennedy was first-rate. From my initial consultation through surgery and recovery he displayed a level of care, skill and professionalism that gave me and my family tremendous comfort."

Alexei Zhitnik - Defenseman Atlanta Thrashers Hockey Club

Dr. Kennedy is personable, knowledgeable and is not conservative - meaning, he got me back on the playing field as soon as he could and that's important to me. He's a real sportsman's doctor!
